Goodbye FrontPage, Hello Expression Web
May 8, 2007 in Microsoft, Tech, Web by Stephen
I’m sure you’re all aware that Microsoft has discontinued its popular web page editing program FrontPage. The replacement product is called Expression Web, and I have used it for about a week or so. I am pleased to report that it works very well on both XP and Vista. FrontPage was causing all sorts of problems on Vista, so I am very glad that is not a problem with Expression. The interface is very much like FrontPage, so you won’t any trouble transitioning if you choose to start using it.
Here is a very helpful white paper from Microsoft about making the transition. (word doc)
How good is the code that it spits out? FP was notorious for delivering code that was bloated and didn’t validate.
The code got much better with FP 2003, and I have not had any issues with Expression. I test all my sites in IE and FireFox, and they all look good so far.
Hi Stephen!
Is Expression the same thing as Sharepoint/Sharepoint Designer? Our district is going to Sharepoint next year, and I am a little worried that I will have to recreate my http://webtech.cherokee.k12.ga.us/creekview-hs/mediacenter site that I have done in FrontPage.
Hey Buffy!
Sharepoint is more on the server side, and we aren’t going to be installing that at KSU. I can’t promise anything, but I don’t think you’ll have to change anything. All the stuff I created in FrontPage still works so far.
